Abstract

Heparin was the first drug to be used as an anticoagulant, and it is still valid until today, it is vital in the prevention and treatment of various diseases, as well as supporting in medical interventions, reducing the risks of thrombosis in the patients; In spite of its multiple benefits, its activity must be reviewed and controlled by coagulation tests, in order to avoid adverse effects such as hemorrhages and therefore the requirement of blood transfusions.
