Abstract

Cardiopulmonary bypass is essential to perform most of the open hear cardiovascular surgeries, however, this practice is associated with numerous changes that culminate in hydroelectrolytic disorders. This disorders can cause serious effects to the patient such as cardiac arrhythmias, shock and even, in extreme conditions, death. Therefore, it is essential that the perfusionist understand, prevent, diagnose and treat these disorders early. Based on the above, the present study aims to present the main hydroelectrolytic changes associated with cardiopulmonary bypass and the treatments available to correct them. For this, a literature review was carried out and the data obtained were compiled in order to assist the perfusionist in his clinical practice.
