Abstract

A congenital heart disease is as a defined structural and/or functional abnormality, which can be diagnosed as cyanotic or acyanotic, with or without symptoms, comprising from simple to complex defects, with a variable mortality rate. Surgery is indicated when secondary changes of the heart disease are not irreversible. In most cases the use of cardiopulmonary bypass, which excludes the heart and the lungs of the big circulation, is indicated. The perfusionist sets up the matrix of the equipment with physical aspects of the patient (weight, height, body mass index) and the adequade flow, use the medicines that may benefit, help and turn children´s cardiopulmonary bypass surgery less agressive.
