Within the framework of the mission of the Association of Perfusionists of Latin America, ALAP, to promote continuing education, profesional and unión improvement of Latin American perfusionists, to achieve and maintain the highest standards of safety anf quality in the care of our patients, the following reference is presented in the management of Extracorporeal Circulation in pediatrics.
These references by ALAP offer a series of management guidelines to perfusionists, both theoretically and practically, in order to provide care based on the best evidence found to date, incluiding recommendation by experts in some techniques. It´s expected that these references will facilitate decisión-making by perfusionists.
This document is made up of three large chapters, namely: the first called “Theoretical support for pediatric perfusión practice”, which compiles the evidence and recommendations to date within the framework of goal-direct perfusión, the perfusión standards and recommendations by experts in aspects of: Gas management in CPB; Fluid management, circuits and blood management during CPB; among other, issues that in one way or another affect the results in the chils undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB.
The second chapter designated “From theory to practice of pediatric perfusión” consists of a series of tables, graphs anf referenced algorithms, of applicability in clinical practice.
In the third chapter titled “Quality indicators to evaluate and control the pediatric CPB process” some operational indicators are suggested, simply for the purpose of measuring and therefore analyzing to implement improvements in the care process for a child who requires of CEC.
